Asalamu Alaikum Today we have a special post on our blog. We are pleased to welcome our new flat mate Yusuf who is a recent revert to Islam Alhamdulillaah.
Tehseen: Asalamu Alaikum Yusuf and Welcome to Egypt.
Yusuf: Walaikum Asalam and Jazak Allaahu Khayr
Tehseen: How are you finding life in Egypt so far? Yusuf: Erm Dusty, life is good Alhamdulillaah and I am enjoying that fact that I am so close to many masjids. Oh yeah I am impressed by the traffic system here as well as the delicious fresh fruit shops. I find certain areas that are stronger in the deen that other areas here in Nasr City, namely Swissary, which although is a humble abode is an imaan booster.
Tehseen: Ah that place, yeah we love that place lol.
Yusuf: Yeah, Other areas seem to have been greatly affected by western influences. Studying is good Alhamdulillah although it’s only been a week and I am benefiting greatly from my Quran and Arabic teacher.
Tehseen: Yusuf you accepted Islam about a year ago Alhamdulillaah, so what made you make this decision? What was the telling factor? Yusuf: I was influence through reading the Quran and just thinking of the signs in the Quran which were so apparent. It just made so much sense that we are on this earth to Worship the One Allaah and to him we belong. A friend at University first gave me a copy of the Quran and I was addicted to reading it, I would spend 2-3 hours at night just reading. When really I should have been revising for exams! But that’s another story. Before accepting Islam I went to a talk given by Suhaib webb and had witnessed at first hand a shahdaa and thought that this was inevtibale for me.
Tehseen: How have your family responded to this change?
Yusuf: When I first told my parents things became rather uncomfortable for a short period of time. Surprisingly my father thought this was inevitable because I had told him a few weeks before that I had given up drinking. Silence was the order of the day from then on in. Soon after, I left back for university and on my visit back during the summer break I tried to put the Islamic teachings I have learnt into practice. Namely: by being kind to my parents, doing more work around the house with them and spending a lot more time with them. My parents have noticed the change in me and have in turn responded positively to me by spending more time with me. I try to give them Dawah through speech as well as my actions. I pray that Allaah guides them like HE guided me. Ameen Tehseen: Ameen
Tehseen: How have your Muslim friends responded and were they helpful?
Yusuf: All my Muslim friends were ecstatic when I told them, but shocked at the same time as no one had any inclination that I was looking into this beautiful Deen. I have been privileged to be surrounded by a group of brothers, who have made things easy for me and been there when I have needed them Alhamdulillaah. Tehseen:What do you find different to your old life?
Yusuf: I feel a lot more contempt satisfied, before I was just going through the motions of life and could not see any purpose of living but now I see an end point. The other differences which are minor I may add are giving up some of the food and the drink, but these are small sacrafices I have had to make in relative to the purpose of this life.
Tehseen: What are your plans in Egypt and Why Egypt?
Yusuf: Well to be honest I knew I needed to learn Arabic in order to open the doors of knowledge and this is why I am here, to learn the language of the Quran. Although I may not be fluent in Arabic by the time I leave, I hope to have a sound grounding so that when I return to England I am able to continue with my studies and benefit most from my time there insha Allaah. As well as Arabic I intend to improve and memories more of the Quran Bi’ithnillaah. Tehseen: When I heard you recite, I was surprised as was our teacher, your pronunciations of the letters is very good Masha’Allah
Tehseen: What would you advise someone contemplating accepting Islam?
Yusuf: Just Do IT!
Tehseen: That sounds like a Nike Advert, just DO IT!… anyway.. Yusuf: To accept as soon as possible because they don’t know what will happen in the next five mins never mind the next few days. And it could be the difference between Jahanam and Jannah. I would just reassure people that its not such a big move as they may think, and there will be many muslims to help them as well to make things easier for them as I have found out to be the case.
Tehseen: Have you any message to our millions of readers?
Yusuf: Millions of Readers?
)
Tehseen: Erm Yeah after all it is my blog.
Yusuf: To keep praying to Allaah and asking for forgiveness and I would also encourage people to make sacrifices in order to go learn the Deen, don’t hold back! Tehseen: Yeah, No holding back Matey…
Tehseen: Okay with that I conclude this interview; I would like to thank you for taking your time out.
Yusuf: Jazak Allaahu Khayran
Tehseen: Yusuf will have his own page on the blog soon insha’Allaah, I am sure it will be more interesting that ours, so stay tuned for another episode of Yusuf and his Journey.
Subhan Allaah how powerful is the following Ayah?
“Whereby Allah guideth him who seeketh His good pleasure unto paths of peace. He bringeth them out of darkness unto light by His decree, and guideth them unto a straight path” 005.016
